Who Shot Rock & Roll: Target First Saturday

The last time I saw Justin this nervous was our wedding day. He’s not as big a fan of public appearances as I am – he’s always been more comfortable behind the lens than in front of it. This past Saturday, November 7, Justin was invited to speak on a panel with curator of the Who Shot Rock & Roll exhibit, Gail Buckland, and legendary rock photographer, Bob Gruen. The panel discussion was part of a full evening of events {including a screening of Purple Rain and a dance party on the Third Floor} that were themed around the exhibit and sponsored by Target First Saturdays at the museum. To say that being a part of this was a huge honor for Justin is an understatement.

All 350 seats in the auditorium were filled and we were treated to an incredible rock & roll history lesson through the stories of Bob Gruen and his images. He’s shot just about everybody: John & Yoko, Led Zepplin, Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, Ike & Tina, The Clash, The Ramones, Ryan Adams, The Sex Pistols… the list goes on forever.

The museum always draws a big crowd on the first Saturday on the month when admission is free, and last Saturday was no exception. While the rest of the museum was fairly easy to navigate, the crowd waiting to get into WSR&R had to wait in line for more than 30 minutes… well worth it.

And thanks to everyone who took pictures of the after-party at Soda and were gracious enough not to tag us on Facebook … it’s been a long time since we’ve been able to get out and party like rock stars.
