Mindfulness for Kids (that adults will love, too!)

Hello! I’m Rebekah Borucki (she/her), a meditation guide, best-selling self-help author, and mother-of-five. My oldest just graduated from college and flew 3000 miles away from the nest, and my youngest is in the first grade. My hands are full, but so is my heart

After waiting patiently with my dream for nearly 20 years, I’m incredibly excited to share my “Big Messy Books” series, meditation and mindfulness books for children published by my independent imprint, Wheat Penny Press.

Rebekah Borucki – Meditation Guide, Author, and Mother-of-Five

About My First Children’s Book

Meet Zara, a clever, responsible, and sometimes anxious seven-year-old girl who lives with her mother (Mama) and four-year-old little brother (Sam). Like a lot of kids her age, Zara sometimes struggles with managing her emotions when confronted with stressful situations.

In Zara’s Big Messy Day (Wheat Penny Press 2019), a hardcover picture book for young readers, children will join her for an ordinary day where she faces three obstacles. Guided by Zara’s mother, both Zara and the reader will learn a simple breathing technique—a short visualization meditation—that will help them find peace and calm in any moment.

Our Very Special Mission

Zara wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible Kickstarter backer community. We hit our funding goal in only 14 hours and ended our campaign at 585% funded! But we didn’t stop there. Since publishing our first book, Zara’s Big Messy Day, our mission has been to bring mindfulness, meditation, and empowered wellness to the most vulnerable members of our communities by gifting free books and mindfulness education to elementary school classrooms.

My independent children’s book publishing imprint, Wheat Penny Press, has partnered with Quentin Vennie, a father of two boys, celebrated wellness expert, motivational speaker, and author of the bestselling memoir, Strong In The Broken Places, to bring our catalog of books on tour—virtually and in-person—to elementary schools and organizations across the United States.

We’re excited to share that we’ve been able to gift thousands of books, but we need your help to make this effort a continued success.

For just $250, you can gift up to 30 students—an entire public elementary school classroom—their own books to take home and enjoy. Or, you can choose to sponsor a partial classroom (10 students) for $100. Each child will receive a colorful character bookmark, stickers, and special gifts to help them practice the lessons from the books. They’ll also get a reading from the author!

Zara loves meeting new friends on tour!

Every Purchase Helps Get Free Books to Kids

To continue our mission of providing free books to kids, we’re donating one book for every book sold with our Buy One, Gift One program! Yes, we’ll donate one book to an elementary school student for every single book purchased from our Wheat Penny Press shop and Amazon.com book pages. We’re so excited for our books to reach little hands. So many mindfulness and meditation practices have already been born from these pages, and there are sure to be more with your help!

About Me (the author)

Here’s a little more about what I do when I’m not writing stories for kids.

I’m a mother of five, TV host, meditation and yoga guide, birth doula, and best-selling author of You Have 4 Minutes to Change Your Life (Hay House 2017) and my brand new books, Managing the Motherload (Hay House 2019) and the Calm and Clear Mindfulness Kit (becker&mayer 2019).

With my youngest two children, Sunny and Annabel

My mission is to make mental health support and stress management tools accessible to all, and I support that mission through free and low-cost services both on and offline in communities that I’ve been nurturing for over a decade.

My big dream for this project is to turn it into an ongoing series of books with Zara as the star. In each book, she’ll learn to overcome an obstacle on her own by learning a lesson from a trusted person in her life. Children will have fun learning simple and effective self-help practices along with Zara.

I live with my family and a barn-full of rescued farm animals on our eight-acre homestead in rural New Jersey, where I also host workshops at my Blissed In{n} community learning space.

From My Illustrator, Danielle Pioli

I have loved drawing since I can remember. The idea of creating a whole universe—from my mind to paper—made me fall in love with art and storytelling. I also always felt like a healer at some level. As a child, I was so drawn to magic—what I call Quantum Physics now—that I was certain could I heal and help people. So I grew up to become an Artist and Hypnotherapist/Energy Healer.

I’m an artist and illustrator whose mission is to inspire others to create

I understand the pain and joy of the creative life and my purpose on this planet is to inspire ideas, questions, change, and transformation, and to serve others as a conduit and by sharing what I’ve learned.

My mission is to spark inspiration through my art, illustrations, comics, zines, poems, songs, hypnotherapy sessions and whatever I feel drawn towards. It’s a pleasure meeting you.

It’s Finally Ready for You!

Zara’s Big Messy Bedtime is coming out in Fall 2020! In this next installment of the Big Messy series, Zara’s Big Messy Bedtime focuses on the fears and apprehension children might feel when faced with big changes (and even small, everyday transitions). And just like in Zara’s Big Messy Day, young readers will learn to accept help and become more empowered in dealing with everyday stress.
